Where to go dress shopping in Vancouver?
Hi Ladies!
Well the time has come for me to start making appointments to buy my dress, but I have no idea where to go!! I've heard of some places along hastings or on columbia in new west...do you have any suggestions? Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks!

If you are in the Valley, there is Champagne and Lace (Decent selection, but some of the girls are snotty), and the Brides Room, which is next to it. The Brides Room is really small, and I almost didn't go in, but I'm glad I did because I bought the most beautiful dress there (the sample fit me, so she gave me 50% on it ), and the lady there was really nice.
Good Luck!

I started compliing a list yesterday here is what I have so far, there is more but I found write ups on some of them & anywhere that had prices starting higher than $700 I ommited as that is out of my idea of my budget... Also not all of them have the addresses / website addresses yet as I am still working on this list but thought it might help you.
Cheers,
Stacey

Bryan's bridal
Have you checked out bryan's bridal in brentwood mall. They do have decent stuff there starting from $99 for plain wedding dresses and it goes up to $800 or so.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Velvet and Lace, on 4th in Kitsilano.
Such amazing dresses, and the woman who makes the dresses is so sweet and helpful. The dresses are not overpriced because they are not necessarily for weddings only (although I'm sure most of her business is probably weddings and bridesmaids dresses).
I hate the idea of "wedding dress stores". Ick!

I cannot recommend Heart to Heart Bridal in Surrey, BC
I am posting as a warning to all brides considering Heart to Heart Bridal as a vendor.
Our bridesmaids dresses were not ready for pick-up until the DAY OF my wedding. Dresses were ordered and paid for IN FULL 9 months prior to the wedding.
Three dresses were picked up night before. Worse still is one of my bridesmaids dresses was not ready until 10am the morning of my wedding. We were to leave for the church at 12:30pm!
I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
My bridesmaids are doing the same as the alterations that they paid for at full price were rushed and unprofessional. Hemming was off. Boning was removed instead of doing a proper alteration, etc.
The BBB already have several complaints regarding this shop.
Excerpt from my BBB complaint:
Delivery date was supposed to be in August, 6 months after purchase. I called a few times and they said first week of September. My wedding was Sept. 22! No explanation as to why the dresses would be arriving late. No time to assess the risks of late delivery and mitigate the problem(s). On that Tuesday, all bridesmaids rescheduled work to have their first fitting. Bridesmaids were to pick up the dresses from the shop 2 days later on FRIDAY, the day before the wedding. However, 2 of the dresses were not ready. My bridesmaids had to return twice to the shop to meet with manager, Darlene, as well as the seamstresses to fix the problem with bad alterations on one of the dresses. They blamed my bridesmaid for her body type and selecting that type of dress. All the girls wore the exact same dress and these were sold by the shop's sales people. Darlene, the manager also kept pushing us to buy their corsets and shoes even when we still have not received the dresses. The last dress was picked up by my bridesmaids at 10am on the day of my wedding, 2 hours before we were to leave for the church. No attempt was made by the manager to have the dresses delivered or courriered to us. No attempt to remunerate some of the costs for the dresses or alterations. Alterations were charged full price. It should be noted that the alterations were rushed and not professionally done. They were "quick-fix" alterations. The dresses were $260 each. Alterations ranged from $100-$250.

I went to Glamour Bridal on Hastings and Boundary. I found my dress which I first show at Bryan's Bridal but for $300 less. The lady there at Glamour is a very sweet and nice lady.

I don't think I will go to Bryan's Bridal again. Most of the salesladies there are terrible and rude. First time I went there was in few months ago, I was looking for an evening dress. A lady with brown skin there asked me what was I looking for? I told her I need an evening dress within a month, she tried to send me off and said they don't have anything that I'm looking for. However, I was still want to browse around. The lady followed me and no matter I picked up something, she said it's not for sale. I'm not happy with the service she provided. Until 2 wks ago, I went there again because I'm looking for a wedding gown and they had a sale. The receptionists were not very nice, until I met the lady called Fairen. She is the only one I'm impress there. She gave me professional advice and showed me the gown that I finally bought. I didn't buy it on that day, but I needed some more time to think, so she said she understand it's hard to make a decision at that moment. I ended up going back to the store on next morning, and the receptionist said I can only try one dress since I didn't make an appointment. Actually, they just opened and it wasn't busy at that time. Also, I was the only customer there. Before I paid for the dress, I found a hole on my gown, so I asked them to fix it. They asked me to call them in a week. I called them 10 days after, the lady called Rosanna answered. I asked her is my gown ready. She seemed like no idea why I left my dress after paying it. I told her about the hole and asked her whether it's been fixed or not? She said she doesn't know. I asked her is there a note there, she said no. No matter what question I asked, her answer is always "I DON'T KNOW". Why didn't she ask someone who knows? She was totally unprofessional. I just went there and picked up my gown, the lady who served me was like dreaming. She wasn't concentrate at all and kept asking something that I just told her in 1 minute ago. I went there was all because of the sale, if not, I won't go there.

Only 1 lady called Fairen at Bryan's Bridal is nice there, others are very rude. When I tried a veil, but it kept falling, the lady who served me didn't even help.

If you're on a tight budget try Action Liquidators
I found my dream dress at Action Liquidators on Renfrew and 1st. They sell off-the-rack dresses from bridal shop's last year models and shops that have gone under. I got my dress for 1/3 of the original price. I also got my alterations done through them and it turned out really well. And I was left with the peace of mind that my dress will be in time for my wedding as I was able to walk out with it!
Note:They also sell veils and other accessories. The bridesmaid and mother of the bride sections did not have that much to choose from so stick to finding your wedding dress there only!

I'm having a really questionable experience at a bridal salon. I've found the perfect wedding dress and they seem to be the only ones that carry it. The sales lady has been evasive and dishonest from the very beginning and I don't really want to purchase my dress from them because of that. Still hunting around...

Definitely don't do it!! An experience that starts out negative is only likely to get worse once they have your money. However, you should know that you can't put the name of a company in your posts. Potential for libel suit. This forum suggests replacing some of the letters with xxx so that it's still obvious who you're talking about but technically you haven't said it. I would suggest deleting your original post.
Happy dress hunting.

Plus size gowns
I'm wondering if anyone has a list of shops that have a decent selection of plus size samples to try on. I know of one, tiffany bridal on Hastings, but not sure of any others.

I bought my dress from Ruby's Bridal Salon in Surrey. She offered me a price that was almost 50% cheaper than the other store that I had found my dress in. Her prices for special order length was also cheaper. She also has really good prices on veils there (I bought mine for $139 when it was $199 everywhere else). . I think she said that she's been in the business for over 19 years and she was so helpful and knowledgeable. She also carries BM dresses.

When to buy a gown?
How far in advance do brides usually buy their wedding gowns?
