    make up trial

I'm going with the barely there make up look, soft and natural. I don't like spending money, and was almost going to do it myself but decided to go with an everyday option with no trial at the salon I'm getting my hair done at (Spa Utopia Langley - only salon big enough open on Sundays, and its pretty for photos). I'm not sure about not having a trial now. Any advice?

Spa utopia does complimentary make-up touch with any service. I had this done when I went for a hair trial there. Now this isn't the full make-up; you get to choose 3 aspects of your face (foundation/skin, eyes, blush or lips). If you going with the soft natural look anyway, this free option may work for you. I would opt out of the lips because it would rub off so you'd need to reapply with your own lipstick/gloss anyway. So you can try out their make-up for free when you go for your hair trial. I've had my make-up done their twice and liked it both times (and I'm really picky about how my make-up is done). They really listen to your preferences.

    Gathering Hope it helps

    Hello auntiecinderella,

I am not a big fan of heavy make-up (the blue eye shadow and the hot-red lips) and totally understand the natural-look that you are looking for.

However, it was/is very important to me that my photos turns out to be "stunning" - even skin tone and refreshed-looking (cause I didn't have very good sleep from the stress and the excitement of getting married). I ended up having air brush make-up which looks very natural and a light colour lip colour, and used glitter to brighten up my eyes and face.

For me, it was important for me to have the trial as I have sensitive skin and I wanted to make sure I would not have skin problem on our big day. The stylists that I worked with are very good with listening to my preferences, taking notes and even taking photos (to let me see how I would appear in photo and for reference). If you don't want to "waste money", book your trial for your birthday or your bridal shower or even friends wedding (so that you will be able to enjoy the make-up/hair for the day)

    Hope it helps.

Even though the look you want is very natural and 'barely there', I would not recommend foregoing a makeup trial before your wedding, because it would be a huge mystery and whoever does the application may have a completely different picture in his/her head in terms of what you're asking for - you wouldn't want to wait until your big day to see your wedding dress for the first time, right? The issue of skin sensitivity is an excellent point as well, particularly if they were to use a product you've never used before and therefore would have no idea how your skin might react.

Having a makeup trial done on the same day you're doing your hair trial is an excellent idea, particularly if you're going out that night. It gives you a chance to 'test drive' the longevity of both.

In any event, and particularly if you decide not to do a makeup trial, I would recommend doing some internet research and print out some photos (in colour, obviously) of makeup looks that are a good representation of the look you want, and take those with you to your appointment. It gives the makeup artist a visual reference so they don't have to guess what you mean when you're trying to describe what you want.
