Tan lines this summer..

I am getting married in September and I am trying to figure out how on earth I'm going to prevent the normal tan lines I get each summer!!! I usually wear tank tops or t-shirts and I end up with the normal tan lines but I can't risk that this year!! How do I prevent it??? I don't like to wear strapless shirts bc I don't feel comfortable "holding it up".

Does anyone have any good ideas for this? Do you just fake n bake alot or something?

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding last September and I had the worst tank top tanlines. I ended up hitting the tanning beds a few times and it helped to even them out a bit but they were still there. I'm going to try airbrush tanning for my own wedding. I'm having my hair and make up trial on March 17 so I'm going to do a tanning trial a few days before. I'll let you know how it turns out and I'll ask them about evening out tanlines and see what they say. <--- sorry... I couldn't resist the dancing banana!

Has anyone ever tried the "fantasy tan" thing? I know a couple of girls who have and they liked it, but I have never personally done it.

Anyone with experience with this? Pros? Cons??

Before the big day I'll probably end up tanning for a few months before so I can build a good natural looking base tan.

I go to the tanning salon often, just because I like to look and feel of my skin afterwards. Personally, I would go tanning to get rid of the tan lines...go before the summer hits to get that base tan so your lines are as bad in Sept.

Go on a 1-week vacation to Mexico prior to your wedding and get that perfect tan.

I would say to go tanning at a salon before the summer to avoid having too harsh of tan lines, that way it will make it a lot easier closer to the wedding to even it out.

Spray tan is also a great way ... just do it a couple days before so that you won't rub off the color onto your dress

I have fair skin and burn REALLY easily (like 15 mins in the summer WITH SPF 30 on). Is it too late for me to start tanning to have a nice base for my weedding??? I would expect that it would take me longer to get a tan if I could only go in for short periods of time.

Good Luck

Teazel2, I think that any little bit of color you get will make a difference... the stand up tanning booths give you color faster, but the lay down beds give you a deeper set longer lasting tan, so I would go a few times a week and alternate. Just don't go in too long so you don't burn!!!

It is not too late, just go for 10 minutes each time and you will slowly build up your base tan. You want do it slowly so you don't burn ~ after two or three sessions of 10 minutes move up to 12 minutes and so on! Go two or three times a week ~ to start. It may take alittle longer but you will get a real nice base tan to your skin.

I agree with what Angel Bride has said. One word of caution though... if you are very fair, pay close attention to what the people working at the salon say. sometimes if the bulbs are new in the beds they are stronger and you might want to start at like 5 minutes your first time to be safe!

Better safe than sorry!!!

I second that ... listen to the girls in the salon. All beds vary in intensity and levels of UVA and UVB ... they will know what the recommended time is for your skin tone. A lot of the salons might even have you fill out a skin analysis to help them figure out your timing and skin type. Where are you located?? Maybe someone on the board will have a recommendation of a good salon for you?? You have to be careful as you can spread diseases and viruses etc if beds are not SANITIZED properly. Another word of advise ... never share eyewear ... get your own !!!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps

What about gals like me who don't go to tanning beds? Anyone have any other suggestions?

Anyone have any spray on tan experience?

I run several times a week and my dress is strapless so I will have the lovely "farmer tan" lines since I mostly run in short sleeved shirts (sometimes tank tops).

Cheer Up

oh, I posted in another forum about a self-tanner called Fake Bake that worked for me and my girlfriends! Its amazing! It is a bit more expensive than your drug store selftanners but this stuff does not streak and it won't turn you orange! I read the reviews online and I did some research on it before I bought it!

I bought a few bottles while I was in Edmonton at West Edmonton Mall at a store called Bronzed Beauty. They actually have a website www.bronzedbeauty.ca and the owner said they'll have online shopping soon and if I'm in a rush they'll do phone/email orders in the meantime.

Ever since my wedding, I still use this stuff regularly. The tan lasts about 7 days. I like it more than spray tan because this self-tanner costs about..umm..$5-6 an application that last a week and the spray tan cost $40 each spray and I found that the spray tan lasted only 3-4 days. I used Mystic Tan.

I've avoided the tanning beds because it takes too long for me to build a tan, and I'm not overly fond of killing my skin to look good.

I slap the fake bake stuff on before I go to bed and I'm nicely tanned the next morning!

My mystic tan experience

I've done the mystic tan two times and the first time it turned out great but the second time not so good (reason = my hands turned orange!!). It was a place in Kits (California Day??) You have to put barrier cream on your hands very, very carefully which I didn't do so well the second time. Your hands seem to attract the spray more because the skin is thicker. Be very careful with the barrier cream as to not touch any other parts of your body or else you will end up with streaks or a white patches!!

Basically you walk into a little room, take all your clothes off and push a button when you are ready. Stand with your legs apart and your fingers as far apart as possible and close your eyes. The spray does your front and stops then you turn around to do your back. It's great it only takes 30 seconds and then you're done! The color won't come out for about 12 hours and lasts about a week. You're not supposed to shower immediately right afterwards or do strenuous exercise as to not sweat it off either. Wear older clothes because it can stain if you don't dry off properly.

The only disadvantage I've found is that it leaves a funny smell on your skin for a few days. I felt a bit self conscious about this afterwards. It's the same smell I've noticed with the over the counter self tanning products. Also, I'm not too sure how safe it is to be breathing that mist in your lungs. I worried a bit about this after I did it and I tried to hold my breath while the spray was doing it's thing.

All in all, it was a good experience. I'm going to do it again for my wedding in September but I'll do it a few days before hand as to not look so unnaturally dark since I'm as white as a ghost! Also it gives me time to scrub the stuff off my hands (if it happens again) for pictures of me and my fiance wearing our rings.
