Wedding Venues 2009

My FH and I just got engaged and are in the process of looking at venues. We aren't getting married until August 2009 a bit far away but would rather get the date location we want. Before we settled down and started a hunt I wanted to know if anyone had any experiences with some of the venues we are looking. Ideally we would like the ceremony and reception at the same location, and are having 60-70 guests. The places we are thinking of are

Westwood Plateau Golf Club
Redwoods Golf Club
Vancouver Rowing Club
Grouse Mountain
Capilano Suspension Bridge
Hart House

Thanks for any help!

I went to a wedding at Hart House last summer. It was an outdoor ceremony - beautiful place! The food was great, too! Just make sure they have contingency plans in case of rain!

My fiance and I are getting married at Grouse this year, August 2008. We just had our menu tasting and food was fantastic. We had also considered the Hart House at Deer Lake, but it was a little bit more expensive and every penny seems to count when it comes to weddings. I've heard nothing but good stuff about both locations.

hey pink22, i've also been considering some of those venues. would also love to hear any experiences people have had!

i just looked at the vancouver rowing club and saw that they use emelle's catering exclusively. i've ordered catering from them at the company i work for and their service was awesome and food was good (just a casual lunch though, wraps). their menus look pretty tasty though!

I haven't tried but I heard Brix is a pretty nice place for a restaurant. you can look at some of the pictures from their website. I was originally planning to have mine there but my guest list grew to almost 200 and Brix can only host up to about 100 so they are too small for mine

All Venues Rip You Off

The thing is, and likely with all the venues you mentioned, prepare to pay DOUBLE whatever they're showing you right now. They mark up booze by 300% and the charge you a 17% service fee on everything including the room fees. Then, at the last minute, they'll inform you there is a minimum amount for food and beverage.

Just knowing this in advance would have saved a lot of frustration on my part.

good luck to you!
