Occasions by the Pond

Hello Ladies, I was hoping maybe some of you may have been by this venue in your own searches. I can't really find all that much info online about it, even from their own site. I have a bit of a crazy work schedual, and havn't been able to book a time to view it. i am hoping you can give me an idea of if it is worth making time for or not and what they are charging. I've seen the menus and food price list, but that is about it. Thanks!!!

I am also wondering about this venue, Occasions by the Pond. I couldn't even find their website. Any info would be great. Is it in Vancouver?

Have you checked out this post:

It seems they don't have their own website.

I looked into it briefly, but never went there. The website is for the caterer, but has the location info. Try this:
http://www.canuelcaterers.ca/banquetfacilities.html

I eliminated it from the short list soley on price, although I briefly thought I was going to reconsider. It looks like a lovely site (in Surrey near #10 highway and King George Highway), however you need to use their caterer (Canuel Caterer) and bar service. We decided on a hall where we could bring in our own liquor to save on costs and hire a caterer that meets our budget.

They did send me a price list and package in the mail. The menus and prices are on the site, they start at $21.95 + tax + tip which is comparable to some of the other caterers I've seen (I would still try to negotiate with them though). The room rental was extra, I don't remember exactly how much (somewhere around 500-900 I think). I think the prices are very reasonable, we are just doing things on the cheap - really cheap!!

It does have a nice view etc. so I wouldn't rule it out until you've had a chance to see it.

Sounds worth going to. I was wondering another thing--when you hire your own caterer, isn't there a bunch of extra charges for labor, linens, cutlery, glasses, hot plates, all this other stuff...so does it add up actually saving you any money (or is it just a bunch of hassle?)

All the caterers we are considering include place settings and full buffet table set up (linens, chaffing dishes, etc), labor, cake cutting, corkage for the per person price. (Our top three so far are 18.95-21.95) We do have to rent the linens for the head and guest tables though.

I found most caterers included almost everything, but there were some that charged extra for everything or didn't have dishes (which can be rented for less than $1 pp, but who wants the hassle?) so we just avoided those.

Make sure you ask EXACTLY what is included and what isn't, and also what they charge for gratuity as it is a fixed percentage in most cases - not what you feel they earned.
