Help1 Taxes and Service Charges

Is it common for reception venues to charge service fees and taxes on your room rental fee?

I know that there is a service and tax charge for your food and drink but the room too??

My room charge is $500 and now they have sent me the agreement stating that GST and the service charge is to be applied as well.

Very frustrating!!

Yup. Taxes, and 15% tip, which doesn't seem right somehow.

I'm constantly thinking "I need to get into this industry", lol.

You know what? I had NO idea how many charges there were for ALL SORTS of different things until I started speaking with a coordinator.

I suppose that would be the final decision maker in my decision for hiring a coordinator to work with. I do NOT want any unexpected little surprises, especially since I feel like I'm in this entire planning process on my own.

It's stinky that there's so many charges for different things, but I guess that's the way it goes. I hope that you don't get dinged with too many of them...

Best of luck!!!!
