Invites: To buy or to DIY

For those of you who have done it, or are in the process of doing it, would you make your own invitations to save money/hassle or would you just buy them and save yourself the stress?

Sometimes I tell myself that we should just buy them, so I won't have to worry about cutting cardstock, glueing, printing and all that, but then I look at the cost of the invites, reception cards, reply cards and think of all the money I'd be wasting! If you could do it again, which would you choose?

I wish I could have made them myself, but I needed at least 150 and I really didn't have the time to make that many so I opted to buy them

I'm making them myself. My sis is really into scrapbooking and makes her own greeting/holiday cards to sell at craft shows, so she will definitely be helping me!! Haha! I only have to make about 60 though, so, that will be easier.

Have you looked http://www.indianweddingcard.com/
We ordered ours from there and they came to just under $200 for 70 invites with 2 inserts, envelopes, RSVP cards with envelopes (printing included).
The cards are really cheap, but they charge a lot for shipping.

I did a little of both. I designed them, had them cut and printed at Paper Poet. I then assembled them all myself!!!

Definitely DIY!!!

I bought my invites from Michael's and it was very easy to do. Michael's has a template online depending on the style you choose and you don't have to monkey around with the margins or page setup. You just choose your wording and test your invites before you print them with the test paper. Make sure they don't come out upside down!!!

I chose the vellum style with a ribbon and it only took me around an hour or two to print up 50 invites and tie the ribbons. (But in actual fact I would be sending out less than that because most of the guests are couples) I think some people panic about the time it would take when they have 100-200 people in a wedding but in reality you are only sending out half that amount of invitations as most guests are couples.

They look very expensive since I have friends that have bought this style of invitation for A LOT more and it has cost them $300 to $500. Any invites that have ribbon or vellum are very pricey. Mine only cost $50 and Michaels has a 40% coupon that comes out every one or two weeks

For something that most people throw away I think it is definitely the route to go.

Is there a link or a photo so we can see them?

Website link

Sure! Just go to www.michaels.com and click on the wedding tab. Then click on DIY wedding invites with monograms. Then you just pick what kind of invitation you want with your colors. Then you download the template. I bought the platinum vellum pack from Michael's and discovered they had the templates for everything online. Finally, you just have to pick the kind of font you want and your wording (they even have lots of suggestions for couples of divorced parents, children of only one parent, etc.) I love the fact that you don't even have to change the margins on your screen...everything is done for you!!

What is also nice is that you can have a matching guestbook, stickers to seal the envelopes and thank you cards all in the same pattern. The invitations go on sale frequently. I orginally bought mine for $69 then I saw them advertised a few days later for $50. I took them back to the store to see if I could get reimbursed and they were so good about doing it with no questions asked!
