Constipation Who's paying for (most of) your wedding

I hope that it's not the credit card!

I voted for: Either/both families + wedding couple, but in my case it is my parents giving us a bit and we're taking care of the rest ourselves.

I have a friend who is Greek and he married an Italian girl. He told me they had some major conflicts when planning for the wedding because it is Greek tradition that the bride's family pays for the wedding while for Italians, it is the groom's family who pays the bills! Is that true?

Hi it's my first post. Great site for reference.

For my background, I am asian and traditionally, the groom pays for the wedding But I'm glad my family and my fianciee's family are not as traditional when it comes to financing. Whew. So our families are pitching in as well as we are. =)

In respense to beleebala, yes, the greek tradition is that the bride's family pays for the wedding, (my poor parents!) ...I don't know what the italian traditions are though...

I'm Italian, but I've never heard of that tradition.. my family has just followed the brides side rule... but if the grooms side wants to pitch in something it is more than welcome. My parents are paying for $20,000 and I have asked FH to stay in charge of the limo (personal friend so cheap), DJ (same thing, a friend!), hotel room for the night, and liquor (we are making our wine since I am Italian and we have all of the equipment already! So liquor won't cost him a fortune). Of course he will also take of the groomsmens gifts and the other traditional things that the groom takes care of. I don't think his parents are helping with the cost though.

Cry1

For our wedding my fh is paying for basically the whole wedding. I don't work because i'm a stay at home mom with a 10 months old daughter. So he has to pay for it hahahah. Yet my parents paid for some so far like my dress which was $1100.00 and she's paid for our $1000.00 deposit for the venue. (I was told yestaurday that she's going to pitch in some more money) Which this helps out a lot because as we all know weddings aren't cheap. Ryan (my fh) dad will pay for all the alcohol. It's kinda like a tradition that he pays for alcohol at his kids weddings. That helps too.
So the rest is up to us.

My brother and I are both having weddings next year, three months apart. My parents are paying for my wedding and part of his, as well as flights for both. Poor parents, makes me wish we were easier kids growing-up.

Really nice parents you have, Miche!

I have a theory that parents should give their money to their children to enjoy while they are young because by the time you make enough money, you may be too old to participate in certain activities. And then in turn, their children can pass on the money they make to the grandchildren, and so on. I made this suggestion to my parents and they asked that I be the one to start giving...

Unfortunately we will be one of the "credit card couple's"! We are planning on paying for everything ourselves, but we don't have any savings yet, so it will likely be on low interest credit cards until we can pay it off - which is why I am cutting costs wherever we can and eliminating things that aren't important to us. Hopefully my parents will kick in some and our share will be no more than $5K which we could pay off over the next year. And with any luck we will get some cash gifts to help pay it down too.

Excited Animate Us! Us! Us!...and the credit card, too!

Since it is the 2nd time for both of us, we are paying!

Of course, any savvy bride & groom will put all deposits, etc on the credit card (excellent safety net for any unthought of discrepencies!)

Then, slowly, but surely, pay off those credit cards - all low interest ones, of course.

It Depends

Both our parents are helping. John's parents are in a position to help more easily so we both are in agreement that they may be helping out more then my own parents, and that's ok.
