Are you gals going to have your ceremony recorded on DVD? I don't know, I am spending a lot of money on my photographer already.

Yes we are ... I too felt the same, but then I realized I wanted the DVD to capture all of the little moments. I know it is expensive to do, but I searched long and hard and was able to find something that suited us. We went with www.maplestreetproductions.com

we aren't, we figured really how often do you watch your wedding video? my FSIL just watched her wedding video for the first time a couple months ago and she was married almost four years ago.

No, we are only having a photographer. Maybe someone will bring a camcorder or something. We thought about it but it's just too expensive and i don't think it would be worth it for us.

Actually my husband is a videographer. He faces the same problem that many couples do not think the video justifies the cost. He is now adding more stuff into the video hoping that the brides would change their mind. He also offers to convert the videos into Flash format for downloading, allowing those not able to attend the wedding to see the ceremony.

I really think that's a great idea of having it downloadable for people unable to attend the wedding. However we aren't able to afford the videographer, we so are just going to let someone tape it for us.

We are still thinking about the videographer. I really like the idea of having at least the ceremony taped as pictures can not express the vows you say. Just my opinion

I'd opt for a DVD slideshow of photographs from the wedding put to music. It's a more condensed version of the day which is easier to get people to watch!

I am really up in the air on this one as well... I would love to have both the video and photographer, but if it comes down to it, we may have to sacrifice the videographer, and hope that a few friends can get some good shots with their camcorders.

I can understand why people would opt for photo before video in the past. However, I expect more people would start changing their minds after they realised that many of their friends have nice digital cameras (possibly the same cameras the professionals use), and some of them can take nice photos almost as good as the professionals. For videos, it is a totally different story.

Good video cameras are still very expensive and most likely your friends do not have access to one. Not to mention the skills necessary for filming the wedding, editing and putting the videos on DVD. People think that wedding video is not important because they mix up the nicely done wedding video on DVD with the home videos their parents took which were on VHS, not edited, make you sick after watching it for more than 10 min and gathering dust on the shelf. If properly done, wedding videos could be amazing, capturing the actual memorable moments, the emotion, the vows and even the atmosphere.

I am a videographer, video is my business and most likely I am biased. Anyway, if you've decided not to have a videographer, you may want to take a look at my DIY wedding video guide. It might help.

I completely get what is being said in the previous post. My parents were actually saying something similar tonight... that had they had an option 'back in the day" to have a nice video made, they would have done it.

I will seriously be considering the videographer option.

I really want a video too, but I can't find anything under $1300 I am already paying a lot for the photographer and everything seems to be adding up so fast. Has anyone seen something for less than $1300?

I don't know of anything off the top of my head, but there were some companies that were newer running specials for this summer. Check on the BC Videographers website as I found quite a few names there that I hadn't seen before. Hope this helps!!

I did have a videographer and while yes it was nice to get everything he got I would not have spent $1300 on it because in the end my lovely husband ended up making something much better and we have now decided that we will do it for other brides too (if anyone wants more info on what he did you can email me at saramcdonald@shaw.ca). I spent only $300 on what I got and I wish I had taken Beebala's husband up on his offer instead. My videographer did not capture my speeches and while I did love some of the stuff he did and footage he got, he also took alot of things that I would not have cared to really have. So I guess what I am trying to say is be very clear with what you want and what you expect out of your videographer so you don't end up dissapointed with all the money you spent on it. I did end up being able to order all the footage that he took that day but I ended up having to pay extra for it so who knows maybe he took some stuff that I will really end up loving but what went into the video is not really us...you need a videographer that will reflect you guys as a couple. I have already watched my wedding video about 20 times because in all honesty I did not slow down enough to enjoy the day and much of it is a blur so it is really cool to sit down and watch everyone's reactions and how you reacted...you can see my wedding video at www.1redshoe.com click on portfolio and scroll down to Sara & Greg.

Just curios - what was the videographer shooting when you were doing your speech?

Agree with you completely that communication with the videographer on what you want is very important as everyone expects different things. However, since we are not experts in videography, it is difficult to express what we want or might not know what we really want. I think it is the videographer's responsibility to ask the right questions to find out what the customer wants. There is no room for mistakes as this is one of the most important events in our lives!

We are not paying to have a professional video our wedding. A friend had offered to tape it and put it onto a CD for us. He did this for some other friends of ours who got married a few weeks ago and apparently it turned out really well. We weren't going to have anyone video it at all so this is an added bonus.

I really have no idea where my videographer was during the speeches. I think pretty much everyone knows speeches are fairly important, yet he didn't get the bestmans, only got a part of my dad's and got my sister's speech. Missed our niece's speech too. Our MC's speech was so funny and there is nothing at all on the video. I am very dissapointed especially because these are things that I would like to watch years from now. What really bothers me is that he was there, he taped part of the speeches and then nothing!

I agree with you though Kat, we are brides usually don't know much about weddings or what the vendors should or should not do, so a good vendor should know what questions to ask to ensure that brides do not end up dissapointed with their services. I would hate for another bride to pay a lot of money for the results that I got with my video.

Sorry to hear about the speeches. Can't say you will get better video "next time". Judging by what you wrote in this forum, I can see that this is definitely a life-long marriage!!

Guess what, I have just received an email from someone. The message is:

"Take me OFF of your e-mail list. I have NEVER REGISTERED FOR ANY LISTS. DO NOT MAIL AGAIN."

I checked our member list and found that your videographer is using this guy's email address registering at our forum. I wrote back asking the email sender to confirm whether he is from One Red Shoe. If it is proven that One Red Shoe has used other people's email, I will consider removing him from our member list and he will be the first one on our public BLACK LIST! That's so unprofessional!

I think I want to film my wedding, too. But first, I better do more research to decide what I really want and to find a good videographer!
