When did you decide on wedding detalis?

Hi. I just got engaged last week and I find I'm thinking a lot about wedding things. When did everyone else decide about details like colours, theme, location and exact date? Also do people have themes for their weddings? I used to work at a bridal shop a few years ago so I know about dresses but I have only been to a few weddings before. So I'm unsure about these details. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Dan relax & enjoy the engagement!

when did I / we decide the details?

well, it was really a process of elimination.

->1st it was a summertime backyard bbq at parents home.
nixed that idea because neither of us are really that fond of glaring heat & being sweaty! blech!
and also had to have a back-up plan in case of rain!

->2nd choice was a Christmas time boat cruise.
nixed that because of the cost of food, easy or difficulty parking and boarding the boat. Didn't like having to pay for water on the boat, bathrooms too small & not enough of. Food was nothing out of the ordinary but charged lots of $$$'s, I thought.

3rd & final choice is what we are going with
->gave into a fall wedding. it will be almost 6years to the date since we 1st met. doesn't matter if it rains, to be expected in November, so sunshine will be a bonus. heritage home for the ceremony & afternoon tea reception. then go to dinner at our favourite restaurant with 24 of our guests.

We were able to keep our favourite restaurant on the final list.

Our main focus was the event...not so much the ceremony or theme, but the surroundings, comfort for our guests and really good food.

Bottom line, focus on what the two of you really enjoy & want.
It is your wedding day!

My fiancee and I are getting married Sept 13, 07 and we started just before christmas 06 to get things in order and then after the christmas rush we buckled down. I am really happy that we started this early on because we had all the biggest major decisions out of the way right off the top. Venue, transportations, hotels etc then all you have left are the fine tunning stuff. I would reccomend starting early to save yourself (and your fiancee) the stress of leaving it all to the last minute

Good Luck

He proposed in Dec. 2005, and sometime in 2006 we decided that we wanted to get married in the summer of 2008. So in August of 2007 we started planning.

We picked our date, made a guest list, discussed venue and food, and outfits.

Two weeks ago we booked our venue, last week we bought our wedding bands, and today I bought my dress

So, in answer to your question, we only started planning the wedding details almost 2 years after the proposal, and one year before our actual date.
