Vase hunting

I'm am searching madly for a centrepiece vase. I saw some low square ones at one of the bridal fairs and fell in love with the idea, but can't find that sort of vase anywhere, other than for $28 at a florists.
I'll also go with a tall cylinder with straight sides around 6" in diameter.

Ideally I'd like to keep costs under an $11 level, if possible, but am flexable on that. Any suggestions? Anyone got the same thing and willing to sell after your wedding, or anyone looking for the same thing?

Some links:
1) this cube, but more like 7x7x7,

2) this, top left, not more than 9” wide (it would take too many roses!)

3) this cylinder, main picture on this page

I would suggest going to Ikea and taking a look. The vases I bought do not look like that but I got them from only $2.79 each. They were a great find. I know they have all different shapes and sizes for different prices, but they are the most resonably priced.

I've been to Ikea, and I have a small assortment of vases on my table now from them that I've tried to do something else with. My fiance thinks he's living in a glass shop!

I'm spending hours and hours searching through dollar stores - some have better selections than others. I know what I'm looking for is out there, it's just a matter of finding it. If I absolutely can't find what I'm looking for then I'll do something with one of the Ikea vases, but that's really my last option.

How about renting the vases? I originally wanted square glass vases like the ones in your pictures and I was going to rent them from my florist who gave me a great price. Do you have a florists yet that you could ask? My florist is Suzanne from WB (I think that her screen name is AST Bride or something like that). You could ask her?

Thanks, I will! I'd likely go to Metrotown one (though I always feel a bit insane after being at that mall) - which SS did you see them at?

I don't think I'll be using a florist, as I've balanced the wedding budget by spending more in some areas and trading off other things - like using a florist. I signed up for a Costco account at one of the bridal shows, and was impressed by the roses there and will likely go all roses for centrepieces, and most of the other arrangements being done. Besides, I love doing stuff myself, so this is huge fun.

I looked at renting, but found it was generally around the $10 each pricepoint anyways, and then had to have someone pick-up/return each of the vases. Still flexable on the idea, really depends on what we can find.

We looked at renting these vases from A&B, they ranged in price from 4.50-6.50 and according to their website prices include delivery & pickup. I gave Suzanne the same picture of vases and she quoted me less. Its up to you, but when we priced it out it seemed less expensive to rent rather than to purchase. But now our new venue includes centrepices so we don't have to worry about any of it.

Have you looked in Safeway? I was grocery shopping the other day at our newly renovated Safeway and the floral department had tons of vases included square glass ones pretty similar to what you're looking for. I expected them to be quite pricey, but the styles I picked up were all in the $4-10 range.

I had a look at my Safeway, and they had large ones like I'm looking for for $18 (too high for me) and the smaller ones had too small of an opening.

I also checked Superstore and they didn't have any clear glass ones anymore. The ones they had were called 'platnum'; at first they looked clear, but they actually had a mirroring effect painted inside of them. Neat looking, but I want clear ones.

I'm heading to Michaels tomorrow to see what I can find, and have a few other stores on the list, including checking a Superstore in Richmond in case they still have the square ones there.

I know I can find these somewhere for a good cost - I figure if I keep believing it, it'll have to come true.

I just saw this...
Thanks for the link and suggestion - I have this vase as part of my trials (I have the whole Ikea collection right now, I think!). I do like it but would prefer it to be more 'square', and not have a tapered bottom shape, and ideally a couple dollars less.

This is what I tried with it - really preliminary thrown together pic (unmatching roses even, lol). I might go with this vase if I can't find a square.

Cynna I got some rectangular vases that look exactly like the ones in the picture above for $2.77 at Michaels. I'm not sure if they're on sale still....

I bought 14 of them.... I know I know... I don't even have my venue yet, but I couldnt' resist.

I would highly recomend checking out Michaels. PLUS when the new Martha mag comes out, there are usually 25% off your entire purchase coupons in them and that would be a HUGE help for you.

I posted pics of my "centerpiece trial" so if you want to see what the vases look like, you could check them out.

Thanks, but what I really wanted were square ones - cubes. I found rectangles everywhere, but not what I was looking for.

I'm still really bummed about not getting squares; I've got 9 of the tall cylanders, and am waiting for another 7 to come in, but my heart's just not in it now.

Awww that's so sad. I'm TOTALLY going to keep my eyes peeled for square vases for you ok!!!

I saw some tall square ones at Carlton Cards today, but they were $20 each and I think that's a little bit much.

I'll DEFINITELY let you know if I find any!

There is a floral whole saler in Surrey Roughly 164 and 104 (on the other side of the freeway from guildford). It is a weird sort of place but they are there and have MUCH cheaper rates than regular stores. Distinctive Floral Wholesale 16413 104 Ave www.distinctivefloral.ca Be warned it's a lot to look at and kind of hard to figure out at first, but it can get the mind going once you are there. Good Luck
