I'm also in the same situation. I originally planned to rent a vacation home thinking it would be easier and unique. From my experience, there is far greater selection of smaller venues on Vancouver Island. Also, the housing market seems to be affecting the availability of some vacation rentals in Metro Vancouver. We found the ideal house, only to learn that it had been sold a week earlier!
